Island love at the Grammys!

So everyone by now knows that the Grammys was last Sunday night. Now I like to look out for the fashion at these award shows but honestly people in the music industry are never really the best dressed. There were a few that I liked such as Rihanna (not the hair), Kelly Rowland, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and definitely some I didn't like such as Kimbra, Kelly Clarkson, Lupe Fiasco and Adele.

With that said, the bigger talk was about the tribute to Bob Marley. Sting, Rihanna, Ziggy and Damian Marley gave what was listed as a tribute to the music legend. Now let me start off by saying I agree that it was short and it felt like a performance instead of a tribute but I loved it. If you can look at the fact that each year we are not recognised live on television for the reggae segment, so much so that people never even knew we were there. If you can factor that then you know that this was a big step and a decent acknowledgement all considering. With that aside, short as it was, it was great. It had a happy and enjoyable vibe and you could see that everyone was having a good time. It reminded me that only Bob could do that. Bob brings everyone together. No matter who you are and what's your issue, everyone loves them some Bob Marley. So big respect to Bob.....Nuff love!

Until next time .......

Jazz and Blues!.....Irie Mon!!!!

Its another Wednesday and I am happy to say that I had a great time at the Jazz and Blues Festival last weekend. I went for the Saturday night show and Romaine Virgo was on early but he gave a great show. His voice and showmanship was really spot on. As for Monica, I cant remember what I was doing at that point but I don't really remember her performance. Dionne Warwick started off very slow and very low as I could hardly hear a word that she sang. After a few songs though she started to belt out some of the all too familiar tunes and the crowd sang along with her in harmony. She got the respect and love of the crowd as they watched her go.

Then finally the man of the hour John Legend came on without a band and I can honestly say I was not disappointed. As John came on stage suddenly a mass of people found their way as close to the stage as they could. It was no longer light and airy but you could feel the crowd forming around you as women and even men wanted to get closer. He managed to give all the ladies goose bumps as they fawned for him and their heats melted with every word he sang. The women absolutely loved him and the men just couldn't deny that he had a way with the ladies. Some men rolled their eyes while others came to realise that the guy was just good. Vocally he was on point, interactive with the crowd and had guest artists such as Taurus Riley and Gramps Morgan which the crowd could no longer contain themselves. He gave an amazing show as I know I could have listed to him all night. KC and the Sunshine Band was very energetic and fun which was a good way to end the night.

Now for another story that's being buzzed about and making headlines is the Volkswagen commercial depicting a Jamaican accent. Now the concept of the advert is that with a Volkswagen no matter how bad your day is or how bleak things may seem you adapt the persona of the Happy, fun loving way of life of the Jamaican People. Now sometimes people and their opinions annoy me because everyone likes to make a bigger deal about something than it has to be. Whats even more interesting is most of the people who are identifying a racial issue with this ad are not even Jamaicans. It amazes me how people feel the need to fight for something most of us take no offence to.

Now the accent was not spot on but I don't believe it was intended to be and if you ask me it was pretty darn close to it than Ive ever heard from other attempts. I like the ad, its funny and lighthearted and I believe it came from a good place. Is it so bad to finally be perceived as being fun loving, happy people who choose to not make the stresses of life get us down? because we as Jamaicans really have to do that, we have no choice! I think the ad is good and everyone just needs to calm down. Don't take life so seriously and all you other Caribbean people who are taking on the ad as though you are Jamaican, you are not so don't speak for us either. Feel free to take a look at the ad, form your own opinions and let me know what you think. http://mashable.com/2013/01/28/vw-super-bowl-ad-jamaican/    Until next time.....

Cheers to the freakin.....Monday??

Hey Everyone,

I want to touch base on a couple events local and overseas. Also some of my friends got to talking about something they observed lately and asked me to share their thoughts on the matter.

First things first, this week definitely got a huge kick start at home and abroad. This Monday was not the typical drag and boring Monday. Instead, everyone was all geared up for what appeared to be one of the best events for the year to come. It was an awesome party of epic proportions. Which event am I referring to? None other than the Major Lazer Concert held at the University of the West Indies campus, Monday evening and what a treat it was for returning students.

I did not attend the event but my friends surely gave it rave reviews and I quote "I don't think I can look at another local party the same way again. It was amazing, I cant explain it, you just had to be there" From what I saw and heard, I can see why everyone had such an amazing time, as its not often you are treated to such diversity with ranging genres of music all infused into one mind blowing, booty popping, ball rolling, fist bumping (yes I just quoted the jersey kids) event and to think it was all free. I know it was not a typical Monday night for everyone who attended and I'm sure it refreshed every ones expectation for the upcoming party seasons.

As for the other big event overseas, President Barack Obama's Inauguration. It was a symbolic day being that history was made yet again and on the day that commemorates Martin Luther King Jr Day. Honestly speaking I don't think the celebration was necessary on that level but hey, they like to party and why not. What got me the most was the fashion and the celebrity appearances to share in the momentous day.

The President looked dapper as usual, a lot more Gray hairs but people are making mature look sexy these days so he gets a plus from me. As for the first lady I thought she looked amazing. Her style was very bold, edgy and a lot more chic than her usual ensembles. she looked sharp, fierce and was rocking it. Her bangs perfectly complimented her chicness (bangs are in this year)

J and B were as fly as ever. They looked like the ultimate power couple next to the Obama's of course. Their style just exude class and wealth. I give props to Jay Z because Beyonce certainly did not outshine her man that day, they were the couple to be.

Now on another note I would like to touch base on what some of my friends were discussing. Now everyone deserves to have a pet if they so desire it and a mans best friend is one of the cutest pets you can find but get serious people. If you are broke don't go buying an expensive, high maintenance dog that you honestly cant afford. Its not fair to the dog and its not good for your image. Case in point taking your little poodle or shih tzu on the bus. If public transportation is the way you get around then that dog is not for you. Also whats really funny is the big rugged, burly men all macho walking around with some of the smallest dogs you kind find, making kissy faces and talking silly. Trust me the dog is more terrified and confused by this than I am. But hey I guess they are just gentle giants. Puppy love for everyone :)........Until next time.......

Golden Globe Fashion.....Trendy or a Flop?

Hi Everyone,

So the award season has officially started last week with the Peoples Choice Awards but by far the bigger event was Sunday Nights Golden Globes. Whats always bigger than the awards received is always the red carpet looks of all the stars who attended. Honestly this year I was not really impressed. There were more average dresses than beautiful and ugly. I m not sure if its because Ive been watching red carpet Fashions for so long that I start to notice that they are more or less the same. All the same styles, similar colours only on a different star. Most of the looks have all been played out and boring. Here are my fashion Do and  Dont from Sunday nights award.

Do's

Julianne Hough's dress looked beautiful, a real princess dress and her punk hairstyle gave the dress an edge steering away from the too cute Disney princess style. The dress was pretty but a bit over the top for her and maybe I would have envisioned it on an A list star that's expected to wear a statement dress. Either way she looked great.

These three ladies, Kate, Eva and Nicole looked sexy in black. The styles weren't over the top but really sexy with the exception of Eva's dress because that left little to the imagination. I am pretty sure there were shots of her butt at some point. With that aside you can tell they all felt sexy and confident and loved their dresses because you could see it in the way they wore them. These ladies are my favourite.

Nicole Richie looked classy and elegant and her dress was fitting for the occasion. It was pretty simple as it relates to the style but her dress had a lot of detail work. She looked like a classic beauty that made a classy statement

Jennifer Lopez was as beautiful as ever. Its as though JLO can do no wrong. She knows her body very well and chooses dresses that greatly compliments her figure, her skin tone, her make up is clean yet seductive at the eyes and her hair is perfectly styled to compliment her dress and silhouette.

Dont's

Debra Messing wore a nice dress I guess but it was unflattering on her. It made her look boxy and heavy, It gave her no shape at all. As for her hair I believe she should not have worn a pony tail and should have worn a messy bun like Katherine Mcphee (http://cdn04.cdn.justjared.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/mcphee-globes/katharine-mcphee-megan-hilty-golden-globes-2013-12.jpg). As for the jewelry on her wrists they look like costume jewelry, they were chunky and did not go with he dress. Lucy Liu, shes pretty but I just didn't like it!!! As for Jessica Chastain can you say BAGS FOR BOOBS? That dress was horrible to me. Why would you want your breasts to look all baggy and saggy? As for her hair it was too much away from her face which changed her features, not to mention I did not like the colouring for her skin tone. Julianne Moore is not on this list because her dress was that bad. Actually her dress was age appropriate and it suited her... I guess! Shes on this list because I just didn't like her hair. I don't like those wraps, they are old and make you look old. Not to mention hers had a peak. Its not a flattering style at all.

Now I'm no fashionista but that was my take on Sunday nights fashion. Award season has just started so I will have much more to comment on soon.

Until next time.........

We Need a Resolution?

Happy New Year Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and stayed safe. I know my last post was a bit of a downer but I have decided to stay positive and to look at things differently. Its hard to do but I find ease in knowing that everything will be okay one day. With that said, it leads me to take a look at the new year. Why is it that each year almost everyone comes up with a ridiculous list of resolutions that they will never attempt nor execute?

The thing about a New Year is that it gives everyone a sense of hope, a new beginning, as though you get a do-over and everyone loves a second chance. For some its more like a third and a fourth. Yes, after reflecting on the things we never got to do and after feeling all the guilt and shame for how little we have accomplished we often choose to then go over board.

I for one am happy to put some of last year behind me as best as I can and focus on me this year. This year I am doing things my way. I love the fact that I get an entire year to start fresh or continue with the things that brought me great joy and success the year before. Here are my tips to making your resolutions more attainable this year.

1. Take a look at your life, the things you are doing, your status, your career, your friendships etc... see what has worked for you and what could improve

2. Your resolution should be a conscious decision to either do or not do something....make it something you want to change rather than what you feel you are suppose to change.

3. Make your resolutions ultimately catered to you as you will be the one carrying them out.....its harder to do or not do something if you don't see the need to.

4. Make your lists short.....if your list is running on and on then chances are there are just some random things on that list that is either not necessary or should not require a conscious effort.

5. Don't take yourself too seriously, have fun with it, don't make the resolutions bring you down, its a chance to finally do you.

Have fun with those resolutions.....That's it for now.... Until next time.....

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas......NOT!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I know Christmas is in the air and people are filled with holiday cheer but for many its not quite so. I find myself feeling the very cold and lonely draft of this Christmas season as I spend my first Christmas without my mom. The reality of living without her breaks my heart and sometimes threaten to sink me into a deep sadness. Christmas was my favourite time of year as I found it to be the only time you get the best out of people. Something about the wind, the music, the food and cheer that just brought merriment. A time to reflect on blessings and praises. This year it just does not seem so merry. I think of her always and the things we would do together during this time. Then I remember I will never see her sitting in her favourite chair or hear her voice call my name again. I have a friend that's going through the same thing and for us this a reality we must face and come to terms with but it will definitely not be easy. As the once Christmas cheer gives me nothing but sadness and despair.

We are living in different times. It appears this is no longer the season for giving but taking away. My heart goes out to the families of those children that lost their lives in that Newtown School tragedy. How could a young man take away something so precious, the symbols of hope and innocence that lives in our world? How could he have robbed them of their lives before they could even live it?There is definitely no Christmas for them and no Christmas for their families. This year will always be the year that someone stole Christmas from them. Now, all they feel is grief!

With all that said, there is something to look forward to. One day it will not hurt this badly. We will never forget but we will find the will to be cheerful again and restore faith in people. We will not live in fear but find peace. We will trust that God never sleeps and that everything will come to light. Soon enough it will begin to look a lot like Christmas again!

This goes out to everyone. You may not have lost a loved one but may feel lost for other reasons. These feelings too shall pass if you believe it and what you think you have lost you will find again.

Victoria's Sweet and Sexy Secret!

Hey Everyone,

I'm back for now to share with you my take on last nights airing of the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. Last night was donned as the sexiest night on television. Now its no secret that this fashion show and tall sexy girls skimpily clad strutting their tushy down the run way is HOT!!! Over the years I have found the girls to be way too skinny to be classified as sexy but that's not longer the case. Its nice to see the angels showcasing well toned, thicker thighs and even bigger butts. Makes them seem more womanly and seductive to appeal to more women that love the line and want to wear it.

This year the show was done with an overall circus theme. I believe it was the most theatrical show they have had thus far with acrobats and even a sword swallower. The angels strutted to a variety of themes which were showcased during the live performances by Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber.

Performances

Rihanna did a great job and she looked gorgeous during her first performance. As for her second performance I believe her look was all over the place and there was just too much pink. Vocally though she has really grown as an artist because her voice is alot less pitchy.
As for the Biebs, he went for the slower acoustic vibe during intermission and then brought up the speed with the next segment performing Beauty and a beat and it was clear that all the angels had bieber fever. Bruno Mars definitely did not disappoint. He's a young guy with an old soul and you can tell by the way he performs and through his music. He's one I love to listen to.

The Angels

The themes were "Dangerous Liaisons" which the angels wore their elaborate wings and bejewelled bras; "Calendar Girls" which featured signature events for the 12 months of the year; "Pink Girls" which featured their Pink collection which is young, fresh and playful; The most glamorous theme being the "Silver Screen Angels" which showed everyone looking like starlets in their feathers; The last theme was "Angels in Bloom" which showcased the angels looking more like sexy Tinkerbell's in their leafy and flower inspired lingerie's. The Angels I like the most are Miranda Kerr, Candace Swanepoel, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. Miranda and Candace just has the sweetest charm with that innocent yet sexy smile while Alessandro and Adriana is all about the fun!

It will be another year before the sexiest night on television returns but until then I'm sure all the ladies will be adding some sexy lingerie to their Christmas wish list. For the men, don't feel bad, I'm sure there will be more of these ladies to see all year round. Until next time......
